Family Learning Night — 5:30 p.m. at Jennie Rogers Elementary. The event, which features an “Express Yourself” theme, will include Harlem Renaissance performances from the fourth grade class, a wax museum created by the fifth grade class and fun activities and games for the whole family. Youth who attend will receive a free book. Pizza and an ice cream bar will be available.

John W. Bate Middle School Beginning Band Concert — 7:00 p.m. at Gravely Hall at Danville High School. The sixth grade will perform for the very first time on stage. The event is free.

Danville Schools receive grant from Delta Dental/Fund for the Arts

Danville Independent Schools received a grant for $1,376 from Fund for the Arts and Delta Dental of Kentucky to enhance its arts education program for students.

The Delta Dental Making Smiles Happen Arts in Education Initiative increases and reinforces opportunities for students across all grade levels statewide to have access to the arts as a critical component of their overall educational experience.

The grant will fund a professional puppetry performance for all second grade, first grade, kindergarten, and afternoon preschool students. More than 470 students will experience Rage-O-Saurus Rex, an interactive puppet show performed by the Squallis Puppeteers. The puppet show will be February 27 at the Gravely Hall Performing Arts Center.

“Providing quality arts programming to our students stands as a goal at Danville Schools.” said Danville Schools Superintendent, Keith Look. “With the help of Delta Dental, our youngest students will have a first-hand experience with something normally they only read or watch on TV.”

Cox Named to Wheaton College Dean’s List 

WHEATON, IL – Wheaton College student Jenny Cox, of Danville, was named to the dean’s list for the fall 2017 semester.

To earn dean’s list honors at Wheaton, an undergraduate student must carry 12 or more credit hours and achieve a 3.5 grade point average or higher on the 4.0 scale.

Everman named to dean’s list at Clemson 

CLEMSON, SC – Holly Ann Everman of Danville has been named to the dean’s list at Clemson University for the fall 2017 semester. Everman is majoring in Psychology.

To be named to the dean’s list, a student achieved a grade-point average between 3.50 and 3.99 on a 4.0 scale.
