Clay Jackson is chief photographer for the Advocate-Messenger. That's him in the blue shirt, getting up close and personal with University of Kentucky basketball player Marquis Estill last year.
When he isn’t shooting tobacco stripping, sports, fires, sports, billy goats or more sports, Jackson sneaks in an artistic shot of what he sees in Central Kentucky. This blog is a record of his life here — through the eye of the lens.
His better half is Lesley Jackson. She tends to him, their dog, Casey, and their vicious cat, Trudy. They call Danville home.
Jackson hails from the Peach State. He left there for Western Kentucky University in 1992. After graduating with a degree in photojournalism he made his way to Danville through Lexington.
His work has appeared in Washington Post, New York Post; Christian Science Monitor; USA Today; Weekly Reader; “Week in Photos” on MSNBC.com; String Music, an SEC basketball book; NYC, work from the prestigious Eddie Adams photo workshop; and, of course, the Advocate-Messenger.
He has been honored with awards from the Kentucky Press Association and Kentucky News Photographers Association.
In his spare time, as if there were any, he paints, skates and plays with his new i-pod (thank you Santa Lesley.) He also shoots wedding photos in journalism style.
