A shopping-cart service company may be bringing at least 10 high-paying jobs to Danville.
Total Cart Management USA, Inc. has expressed an interest in locating a service center in Boyle County. Ordinances approving local tax incentives for TCM were presented at Danville City Commission on Monday and Boyle County Fiscal Court on Tuesday.
TCM is a Canadian firm planning to locate its first service center in the United States in Danville. TCM services shopping carts. The main customer of the Danville operation would be Kroger, said Jody Lassiter, president and CEO of the Danville-Boyle County Economic Development Partnership.
TCM refurbishes, retools, welds and repairs shopping carts. Once the carts have been sent to them and repaired, they are sent back to the Kroger stores, Lassiter said.
“We’ve been really triggering up our foreign direct investments, particularly with some of my travel, and we’ve done a lot of marketing in the Canadian area for some time, so ultimately this results from that,” Lassiter said. “Plus the fact that this works really well for us — it gives Danville the chance to serve all of the Kroger market. Kroger is based in Cincinnati, and has a huge presence in the mid-south and southeast, and we are a great location to access that.”
TCM will initially create 10 jobs, which is the minimum threshold to qualify for state tax incentives worth $150,000, which were approved in July.
Lassiter said the 10 jobs will average pay of $24.63 per hour.
“State incentives have already been preliminarily approved in the amount of $150,000 by the Kentucky Economic Development Finance Authority,” Lassiter said. “As a companion to the state package, I proposed our traditional local wage assessment (tax incentive), capped at $75,000 from payroll taxes over a period of 15 years.”
Boyle County magistrates voted unanimously to approve $25,000 of the local tax incentives at their Tuesday meeting. Danville approved its portion of the tax incentives Monday night.
“My conversation with the company’s representatives indicate that there are already plans for future expansion that can be accommodated in their leased space in the former TCI Logistics building,” Lassiter said.
“I think this is a terrific acquisition for us,” Judge-Executive Harold McKinney said. “I am really impressed.”
There is currently not a specific date set for the company to officially open in Danville, but Lassiter said the company is moving quickly and preparing the building now.
“We are excited to see what the future growth will be with highly technical, highly paid jobs,” Lassiter said.
