Parks and Recreation presented new signs at their board meeting Wednesday to be placed in Danville parks. Two new signs will be posted: one prohibiting drugs, alcohols, fireworks and weapons, and the second stating the closing time.
At last month’s meeting, the issue of limited signage in the parks was discussed. At the time, there were not any signs posted in the parks stating drugs, alcohol, fireworks and firearms/weapons were not allowed.
Due to the Second Amendment, the board did not think they would be allowed to post that no weapons were allowed in the park, so this was not completely agreed on. There was a hold placed on making the sign due to legal issues with posting people could not carry concealed weapons.
In addition, the board also wanted to post closing signs in the parks.
The parks close at dark, but no sign is posted stating this. There was also discussion of posting opening signs, as well. However, this would affect the fisherman, walkers and others who utilize the parks early in the morning.
The two new signs will be posted, with the closing sign stating the park closes at 10 p.m. posted April 1-Oct. 31. During the rest of the year, a sign will be posted stating it closes at dusk.
The signs will be posted as soon as possible in all of the parks in Danville.
