Applications being accepted for Medicaid nurse aide training
Ephraim McDowell Regional Medical Center is accepting applications for a Medicaid Nurse Aide Training Course. The course is to prepare nurse aides to provide high quality, direct patient care under the supervision of licensed nurse personnel.
Nurse aides provide care to people of all ages in various healthcare settings. Medicaid nurse aides are usually responsible for tasks such as:
• checking and recording patient’s temperature, blood pressure, pulse and respirations;
• assisting patients with activities of daily living; and
• assisting with patient’s personal hygiene.
The next training course begins Oct. 17 and continues through Nov. 14. Classes will meet Oct. 17, 18, 20, 24, 25, 27 and Nov. 3, 4, 7, 8, 9, 14, 15 and 16 from 8 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. The training course will be held at the Gilcher Building in the Barton Room.
Enrollment is limited and based on an application/interview process and the submission of required documents. Participants must have a high school diploma or GED. The class cost is $750. The fee includes a book, workbook and the cost of the state board exam. Road closures scheduled for Mercer, Anderson
Temporary closures are scheduled for the Bluegrass Parkway in Mercer and Anderson counties from 8 a.m. to 6 p.m. Monday, Sept. 12, according to the Department of Highways. The closures are necessary for signs to be installed.
In Mercer County, lane closures will be in effect for both directions at the Salt River and Anderson/Mercer county line (mile point 056 to 057).
In Anderson County, shoulder closures will be in effect at the Anderson/Mercer and Anderson/Washington county lines.
All work is subject to change depending on weather, emergencies and other factors beyond the control of the Department of Highways.

Craft fair at Cliffview
LANCASTER — Cliffview’s annual craft fair will begin at 9 a.m. Saturday, Sept. 24, at Cliffview Retreat and Conference Center, 789 Bryant’s Camp Road, Lancaster, two miles off Ky. 34 on Herrington Lake.
There will be food, games and shopping for unique items such as handmade and repurposed crafts and woodworking made by craftsmen in the area.

Bluegrass Central AAUW hosting Meet and Greet
The American Association of University Women — Bluegrass Central Branch — will be hosting a meet and greet event from 5:30-7 p.m. Thursday, Sept. 15, at the Woodford Inn, 140 Park Street, Versailles. Information about the branch, projects and plans for the 2016-17 year will be presented.
