Yosemite man indicted on murder charge

LIBERTY — A Yosemite man has been indicted for murder after he allegedly caused the death of another Casey County man during an altercation.
Larry Jason Buis, 37, was indicted in late August by a Casey County grand jury for the murder of Mark Ponder, 65.
Buis and Ponder were allegedly involved in an altercation around 8:30 p.m. on June 25 at the Breedon Withers Grocery Store in Yosemite, according to Kentucky State Police. Both men then left the scene.
Ponder later contacted Casey County EMS and was transported to the Casey County Hospital before being airlifted to the University of Kentucky Chandler Medical Center, according to KSP.
Buis was arrested on June 26 and charged with second-degree assault. Ponder died at the Lexington hospital on July 3.
According to the indictment, Buis allegedly caused Ponder’s death by “repeatedly striking him with an instrument.”
Kentucky State Police Detective Mike Dubree testified against Buis for the grand jury.
Others indicted
Other people indicted by the grand jury on Aug. 22 are:
• Jamie Allen Wethington, 39, 6153 Ky. 1547, Liberty: public intoxication; and first-degree possession of a controlled substance (methamphetamine). Casey County Deputy Chad Weddle testified.
• Christopher J. Risner, 23, 2060 Danville Road, Stanford: first-degree criminal mischief for allegedly intentionally cutting down an electric pole with a chain saw, causing more than $2,000 in damage. Bail was set at $1,000 cash. Kentucky State Police Trooper M. Blakey II testified.
• James L. Hines, 52, 1843 Poplar Springs Road, Liberty: possession of drug paraphernalia; first-degree possession of a controlled substance (methamphetamine); third-degree possession of a controlled substance (drug unspecified); and first-degree possession of a controlled substance (drug unspecified). Jamie Walters with the Casey County Sheriff’s Office testified.
• Anthony L. Allen, 49, no address listed: theft of a firearm by unlawful taking; second-degree criminal mischief; first-degree burglary; and theft by unlawful taking $500 or more but less than $10,000 (vehicle). Bail was set at $10,000 cash. Weddle testified.
• Justin Lee Adams, 32, 5872 Ky. 837 North, Kings Mountain: driving on a suspended license; operating a motor vehicle under the influence of alcohol or drugs; first-degree possession of a controlled substance (methamphetamine); and possession of drug paraphernalia. Weddle testified.
• Tyler W. Barrett, 27, 8057 Ky. 70 East, Yosemite: first-degree trafficking in a controlled substance (methamphetamine) enhanced by firearms possession; operating a motor vehicle under the influence of alcohol or drugs; possession of drug paraphernalia; and carrying a concealed deadly weapon. Bail was set at $10,000 10 percent. Weddle testified.
• Seth A. Coffman, 34, 7147 Dry Creek Road, Elk Horn: first-degree possession of a controlled substance (methamphetamine). Bail was set at $500 cash. Weddle testified.
• Bradley S. Payton, 29, 851 Lancaster Road Lot 32, Stanford: operating a motor vehicle under the influence of alcohol or drugs; first-degree trafficking in a controlled substance (methamphetamine); and possession of drug paraphernalia. Weddle testified.
• Patricia Ann Reid, 48, no address listed: public intoxication; possession of drug paraphernalia; first-degree possession of a controlled substance (methamphetamine); and tampering with physical evidence. Bail was set at $1,000 cash. Weddle testified.
