Correction

In the article “Solid waste director to recommend closing Mitchellsburg convenience center” that appeared in the Sept. 8 issue, it incorrectly stated that there was a decrease in customer flow to the Mitchellsburg center. Customer flow numbers presented for this year are for January to August and not a complete year. Last year’s total customer flow was about 15,000; through August of this year, the center has served approximately 10,000.

Ephraim McDowell Health offering free stroke screening

LANCASTER — Ephraim McDowell Health is sponsoring free stroke risk screenings from 8 to 11 a.m. Sept. 21 at the Garrard County Health Department.

The screenings include cholesterol, glucose, blood pressure, body mass index and stroke-risk score card. After the screenings are complete, participants will have the opportunity to discuss their results and follow-up educational options with a licensed health professional.

Participants should not eat 12 hours prior to their screening if they would like to have the blood test that gives them a full lipid panel. Drinking water is allowed. This gives the participant detailed information including their TC, HDL, LDL, triglycerides and glucose.

Participants will receive a stroke risk score and may plan ways to reduce their risk for having a stroke.

The screenings are open to the public for anyone 18 years of age and older. You may call (859) 792-2153 for an appointment, but walk-ins are welcome.
