Lois Allene Burton

1926-2016

Lois Allene Burton, age 89, of Halls Gap Estates in Lincoln County, passed away Sunday, Sept. 11, 2016 at her residence. Born Tuesday, Nov. 30, 1926, in Lincoln County, she was the daughter of the late Eldie and Roxie Belle Young Reed. She was the widow of Russell Burton, who preceded her in death Sept. 18, 2014.

Allene worked as an LPN for Fort Logan Hospital and retired as a nurse at Dr. Crase’s office. She was a faithful member of Fairview Baptist Church, where she once served as Sunday school teacher and teacher of VBS, member of WMU, choir member, and was a member of the Pulpit Committee. Allene was also a Hospice volunteer, Fort Logan Hospital Auxiliary member, worked with UK Expanded Food & Nutrition Program for several years, worked in the original Head Start Program as a social worker, and was a member of 501 Chapter of Order of Eastern Star.

Allene had a great love for her family and church. She enjoyed flowers, especially daylilies, gardening, birds, and cats.

Allene leaves behind two sons, Phillip Burton (Beverly) of Stanford and Steve Burton (Janie) of Glasgow; one daughter, Linda Christopher (Lee) of Lancaster; one daughter-in-law, Betty Jean Burton Byrd (Kermit) of West Point, Mississippi; one sister, Sandra Schalliol (Dan) of Niles, Michigan; one brother-in-law, Gene Hoffner of South Bend, Indiana; seven grandchildren, Nathan Burton (Teona) of Waynesburg, Dan Burton of Stanford, Rusty Burton (Kate) of Owensboro, Steven Burton (Jennifer) of Ocean Springs, Mississippi, Michael Burton of Lexington, Randy Christopher (Shannon) of Georgetown, and Brandy Miller of Lancaster; 11 great-grandsons; and 2 great-granddaughters.

In addition to her husband and parents, she was preceded in death by one son, Russell Mack Burton; and one sister, Janice Hoffner.

A visitation will be held 6-9 p.m. Monday, Sept. 12, 2016, at Fairview Baptist Church. An Order of Eastern Star Service will begin at 8 p.m. Monday at the church. The funeral service will be held 10:30 a.m. Tuesday, Sept. 13, 2016, at the funeral home. Bro. Johnny Baker, Bro. Gary King, and Bro. Chester Cornett will officiate the service. Burial will follow in Camp Nelson National Cemetery.

Nathan Burton, Dan Burton, Rusty Burton, Steven Burton, Michael Burton, Randy Christopher, Brandy Miller, and Lee Burton will serve as active pallbearers.
