Board members and employees cut the ribbon and invited guests to check out the new facility. The event drew a large crowd, including several people who played important roles in making the new building possible. Those who donated a great deal of  time and/or funds to the building were recognized during the ceremony.

“It’s sad that our leader Kathy Nelsen isn’t here, and she wants us to be happy and it’s a great day to know that dogs are going to have a nice home,” DBHS Board Member Bettie Poland said.

Poland gave a presentation about the building, touched on its history and how the building came to be. Judge-Executive Harold McKinney briefly shared his thoughts and feelings about the new facility and what it means to the Humane Society and the city of Danville.

As a final part of the facility’s unveiling ceremony, dogs were let into kennels by key individuals holding plaques crediting donors who made the kennels possible. The dogs will reside in the new facility until they are adopted out.

“I want everyone to come out and see the facility that they helped build and to also see the sweet little faces inside,” Poland said.
