Jackie Springate

1943-2016

Jackie Springate, 72, of Harrodsburg, husband of Susan Trisler Springate, died Sunday, Sept. 11. Born Dec. 25, 1943, he was the son of the late Paul and Laura (Patterson) Springate.

Jack was a graduate of Mercer County High School and the U.S. Army Armor School, a retired supervisor for the Harrodsburg Post Office, a retired major in the U.S. Army Reserve, a former commander of the Harrodsburg Army Reserves, a member of the Mercer Masonic Lodge 777 F&AM, the the Oleika Shrine Temple, former member and past president of the Harrodsburg Rotary Club, former board member and past chair of Cardinal Meadows.

Jack helped establish Big Brothers and Big Sisters of Mercer County and served as a Harrodsburg City Commisioner from 1994 until 2010. He was a member of the Harrodsburg Baptist Church, the HBC Glad Hand SS Class, and he enjoyed fishing and hunting. Other survivors are daughters, Leigh (Jamie) Dunn, Harrodsburg, and Loren (Chris) Bostick of Danville; sister, Judy (R.C.) Sanders, Palm Coast, Fla.; sister-in-law, Helen Jo (David) Shewmaker, Springfield; five grandchildren, Sara and Will Dunn, Cannon, Beau, and Mackenzie Bostick; and special Boston Terrier, Izzy.

Services will be 11 a.m. Friday at Ransdell Funeral Chapel by John David Lane and Wayne Spivey. Visitation 5-8 p.m. Thursday, Ransdell Funeral Chapel.

Honorary pallbearers: Lonnie Campbell, Barry Currens, Don Engler, Glenn Hurst, Charlie Ison, Bill Kelsey, Ernie Kelty, Ronnie Long, Bernie McGlone, Tony Pankey, John Wayne Peavler, Lloyd Pickett, Skeeter Reed, Bobby Thompson, and members of the Glad Hand SS Class. The family wishes to give “special thanks” to Dr. Ryan Turpen of Danville.
