Tobacco heritage festival is set

LANCASTER — The Garrard County Rural Heritage Tobacco Festival is set for this Friday and Saturday, Sept. 16 and 17 from 10 a.m. to 10 p.m. at Lancaster Town Square. There will be live music, a car show, entertainment, food and kid’s activities.

Angel Tree sign-ups

Sign-ups for The Salvation Army Angel Tree will be Monday through Friday, Sept. 26-30, at the office located at 519 South Fourth Street.

Hours are 10 a.m.-3 p.m. Monday through Thursday, and 8 a.m.-noon Friday. There will also be evening hours on Monday, from 5:30-7:30 p.m.

Four neighborhood watch/town hall meetings scheduled in Mercer County

HARRODSBURG — The Mercer County Sheriff’s Office has been providing annual neighborhood watch/town hall meetings for many years, in cooperation with Mercer County Crime Stoppers, Hometown Radio and Fire Chiefs. During these meetings, attendees receive numerous handouts and information on: formation of neighborhood watch groups; terrorism; family disaster preparedness; preparing an emergency kit; CPR, first aid and the Heimlich maneuver; surviving an active shooter situation; community lighting and completing a security checklist; personal property identification; completing a home security checklist; firearms responsibility in the home; importance of obtaining detailed vehicle and suspect descriptions; what to do if stopped by law enforcement; identity theft; senior scams; cybersecurity and sextortion; drug abuse; human trafficking and the registered sex offender compliance program. 

  You may attend any of the four meetings this month, from 7-9 p.m. at the following locations:

Monday, Sept. 19 — Dixville Fire Department, 2470 New Dixville Road 

Monday, Sept. 26 — Shakertown Fire Department, 3318 Shakertown Road

Tuesday, Sept. 27 — Salvisa Fire Department, 164 Sugar Street 

Thursday, Sept. 29 — Harrodsburg Fire Department, Lions Park Community Center, 450 E. Factory St.
