Heart of Kentucky United Way’s 23rd annual Day of Action is right around the corner. This year the event will take place on Wednesday, Sept. 21 in Boyle, Garrard, Lincoln, and Mercer counties.
On this day, volunteers from business, industry, and public service organizations from all four counties will work together in a collaborative, hands-on experience providing free labor to area non-profits and various other community groups requesting assistance.
It is not too late to sign up. Simply visit getconnected.hkuw.org to select a project and sign up.
Participants will kick off the day with a breakfast in the county they are volunteering beginning at 8 a.m. Boyle volunteers will meet at Millennium Park. Garrard and Lincoln volunteers will meet at the Historic L&N Depot. Mercer volunteers will meet at the Mercer County Extension Office. After projects are completed, all volunteers will convene at Millennium Park where HKUW will provide lunch for all volunteers.
“This is an incredible display of people from our communities giving their time and energy to make where we live and work a better place,” said Stephanie Blevins, Executive Director, HKUW. “Seeing hundreds of volunteers giving up their day for someone else is the meaning of community. We are very fortunate to live in an area where people, businesses, and industry truly care about their neighbor,” said Blevins.
Day of Action promotes the value of volunteerism and demonstrates neighbors helping neighbors to create positive change in the lives of children, families, and seniors.
