GRAVEL SWITCH — Penn’s Store in Gravel Switch held its 25th annual Outhouse Blowout on Saturday. 

“Raindrops keep falling on my head,” store owner Jeanne Lane said. “It was probably one of the most unique blowouts, in that everything took a turn and plans changed.”

The outhouses came rolling through the “Parade of Privies” with their pullers leading the way. The teams this year included, AM VET RIDERS from Boyle County, Wilderness Trace YMCA from Mercer County, Moonshine Bandits from Boyle County, Kentucky Ridge Runs from Casey County, RBT from Marion County and the “CHAMBER-NATORS” from Celina, Tennessee. 

The races kept going throughout the afternoon after getting a late start.

The CHAMBER-NATORS took first place in the race. Lane said they have been coming to the race for years, but this is the first year they won.  

The Wilderness Trace YMCA swim team took home second place in the race and RBT came out in third place. 

“Everyone seemed to really enjoy running the race in the rain,” Lane said.

Outhouses weren’t the only things competing during the event — there was also a competition to see who had the ugliest legs. Cam Williams was fortunate, or maybe unfortunate enough to win first place in the contest. Darrell Sutherland was second, as his legs weren’t quite as ugly as Williams.
