Blood drive planned for Wednesday
Cancer patients often require blood transfusions to help build up their blood supply during cancer treatments. To thank donors who give the gift of life and to promote the fact that blood donors save lives, Kentucky Blood Center (KBC) is offering October blood donors a special “Fight Cancer, Give Blood” T-shirt.
Area donors are invited to give so others may live at the upcoming blood drive: 10:30 a.m.-5:30 p.m. Wednesday, Oct. 5 in the Community Room at the Boyle County Public Library, 307 W. Broadway in Danville.
To schedule a donation, visit kybloodcenter.org or call (800) 775-2522. Walk-ins are welcome.
Blood donors must be at least 17-years- old (or 16 with parental consent), weigh at least 110 pounds, be in general good health, show a photo I.D., and meet additional requirements. Sixteen-year- old donors must have a signed parental permission slip, which can be found at kybloodcenter.org.
Ephraim McDowell Health sponsoring free health screening on Oct. 19
Ephraim McDowell Health is sponsoring a free health screening at Perryville Baptist Church from 4-7 p.m. on Oct. 19.
Health screenings that will be offered are cholesterol, glucose, blood pressure, body mass index, stroke risk scorecard and flu shots. After the screenings are complete, participants will have the opportunity to discuss their results with a licensed health professional.
Participants should not eat 12 hours prior to their screening if they would like to have the blood test that gives them a full lipid panel. This gives the participant detailed information including their HDL, LDL, triglycerides and glucose.
Walk-ins are welcome but appointments are recommended. To schedule an appointment, call (859) 332-8721. The screenings are open to the public for anyone 18 years and older.
Goodall Apartments ribbon-cutting Friday
A ribbon-cutting ceremony for the new Goodall Apartments in the former Palm Beach plant in Danville will be held 11 a.m. Friday at the apartments on Stanford Avenue, across from South Alta Avenue.
The ribbon cutting will be held at 11 a.m.; and Hometown Radio will be cooking lunch for attendees from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. Tours of the renovated, historic building will be available. The event is free and open to the public.

Ephraim McDowell Health is sponsoring a free flu shot clinic from 4:30 to 6:30 p.m on Oct. 20 at Gethsemane Baptist Church. Walk-ins are welcome and flu shots are available for anyone 18 years of age and older.
