Harrodsburg Baptist Church to host Kentucky Baptist Men’s & Women’s chorales 

HARRODSBURG – Harrodsburg Baptist Church will host the Kentucky Baptist Men’s and Women’s chorales for an evening of worship Oct. 20. The 90-member combined chorales take the stage at 7 p.m. 

The worship experience marks the second stop of the 2016-17 chorale season. 

Ministers of music, worship pastors, church music teachers, and even a few pastors from Kentucky Baptist churches comprise the Kentucky Baptist Men’s Chorale. This all-male chorus was formed in 1965 by Kentucky Baptists’ first state music director, Eugene Quinn. 

Kentucky Baptist Women’s Chorale was formed nearly 30 years ago to encourage spiritual and vocal development of women in an atmosphere of Christian fellowship. Members act as ambassadors for the Kentucky Baptist Convention and hope to share the good news of the gospel through music. 

All worship experiences are free and open to the public.

Fish fry

PAINT LICK — Paint Lick Fairview Christian Church will have a fish fry from 5-7 p.m. Saturday, Oct. 15 at the church. The menu includes fish, hushpuppies, baked beans, fries, cole slaw, homemade desserts and drink. The price is $8 for adults and $5 for children age 12 and younger.

Revival

Pleasant Run Baptist Church will be having a revival Oct 16, 11 a.m. and 6 p.m., through the Oct. 19, 7 p.m. nightly. Jeff Draper from McKinney will be the evangelist.

Revival

PERRYVILLE — First Baptist Church Perryville will hold revival praise and worship services Tuesday through Thursday, Oct. 18-20. Pastor Billy G. Jenkins, Jr. of Mt. Zion Baptist Church in Shepherdsville will be the guest preacher. Services begin at 7 p.m. nightly. The public is invited. Rev. Jeffrey Yocum is the host pastor.

Homecoming

Danville First Church of God will have Homecoming Sunday this Sunday, Oct. 16.  Sunday School begins at 9:45 a.m. and morning worship service begins at 10:45 a.m. Everyone is invited to be a part of the service. We are especially encouraging those who consider this their home church but haven’t been here for awhile to “come back home.” A potluck meal will be enjoyed by all following the service.  The church is located at 3220 Harrodsburg Road, Danville. Church Christmas bazaar seeks vendors

The Ladies’ Ministry of Danville First Church of God will have its annual Christmas Bazaar from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. Saturday, Nov. 12. They are now reserving booth space for vendors and crafters. Church celebrating 100 years

MITCHELLSBURG — Mitchellsburg Baptist Church is having a Homecoming and celebrating 100 years on Sunday, Oct. 23. Service begins at 11 a.m. Special guests will be The Calvary Heirs. A fellowship meal will be served after the worship service.

Southern District Baptists have annual meeting Monday and Tuesday

Baptists from South District Baptist Association will meet 7 p.m. Monday and Tuesday, Oct. 17 and 18 for their annual meeting. This is for a time of inspiration, ministry, evangelism and missions reporting, as well as conducting business. 

The Monday session will be at Doctor’s Fork Baptist Church and the Tuesday session will be at Perryville Baptist Church. A meal will be provided before each session at 6 p.m. 

The main speaker for the event will be the Rev. Gerry Hearn, chaplain at Baptist Health Hospital in Lexington. Hearn is also the former pastor of First Baptist Church of Perryville.

Also speaking will be the Rev. Andy McDonald, evangelism associate for the Kentucky Baptist Convention. McDonald recently led a conference on affinity evangelism in the association.

Other persons on the program include Jason Roop from Campbellsville University and Randy Greene from Sunrise Children’s Services in Danville.

Music will be led by Insco Sonny Rue, South District music team leader and minister of music at Gethsemane Baptist Church in Danville. Moderator of the association is Rev. Bobby Estes, pastor of the Beech Grove Baptist Church; associate moderator is Rev. Monty Carney, pastor of the Southern Heights Baptist Church; treasurer is Lt. Col. Sky Tudor (Ret.), Lancaster; director of missions is Rev. Jim Clontz, Ph.D., Danville.

South District Baptist Association is composed of churches in Boyle and sections of Garrard, Marion, Washington and Casey counties. Members also live in Lincoln and Mercer counties.

GERRY KEITH HEARN

Gerry K. Hearn is a Christian gentleman and scholar who loves The Lord all of his heart, mind, body and soul. He was born to the proud parents of Pastor Emeritus John David Hearn, Sr. and Mrs. Juanita Ruby Hearn. The third of five children, he is an ordained Baptist minister and a Kentucky Licensed Pastoral Counselor. He currently serves as a chaplain at Baptist Health Lexington and a substance abuse counselor at Isaiah House Recovery Center.

Over the years, Brother Hearn has served in a variety of ministerial and non-ministerial settings. He has served as a pastor, campus minister, prison chaplain, clinical supervisor, instructor, church musician, consultant, pastoral counselor, adjunct professor of pastoral care and counseling, and court administrator and non-attorney magistrate.

An avid learner Brother Hearn has studied at several academic and clinical institutions. He earned his Bachelor of Science in Philosophy at Eastern Michigan University; Master of Divinity in Theology at Colgate Rochester Divinity School; and Master of Social Work in Advanced Generalist Studies at Asbury University. He has completed substantial course work at Wayne State University in marriage and family counseling; Candler School of Theology at Emory University and Columbia Theological Seminary in areas of pastoral care and counseling; and The Southern Baptist Theological Seminary in the areas of biblical counseling and spirituality. He received his clinical training at Catherine McCauley Health Center, Georgia Association of Pastoral Care, Detroit Institute of Family Systems Therapy (defunct), and the Samaritan Counseling Center.

In addition to his extensive training and experience in pastoral care and counseling, Brother Hearn is well versed in Christian apologetics, Christian spirituality and formation, Christian doctrine, and Baptist polity and procedures.  He studied piano at the Art Center Conservatory of Music and Elma & Carl’s School of Music (both are defunct).

Brother Hearn is an avid music enthusiast enjoying traditional gospel, jazz, classical, old-school soul music, and most recently, blue-grass and country music. He is a former martial artist with second degree black belts in the Korean martial arts of Hapkido and Hankido.

Brother Hearn belongs to several professional and clinical organizations: Alpha Phi Alpha Fraternity, American Association of Christian Counselors, American Association of Pastoral Counselors, American Group Psychotherapy Association, International Hapkido Federation, International Society of Christian Apologetics, Kentucky Association of Pastoral Counselors, National Association of Christian Social Workers, National Association of Social Workers, Phi Kappa Honor Society, Society for Pastoral Theology, and Spiritual Directors International.
