Mary Fred (Leedy) Schnitzler

1930-2016

Mary Fred (Leedy) Schnitzler, 86, of the Ottenheim Community of Waynesburg, passed away Wednesday, Oct. 19, 2016, at Ephraim McDowell Regional Hospital. She was the wife of Ernest John Schnitzler whom she married on Oct. 4, 1956.

Mary was born in Benham, Harlan County, Kentucky on April 24, 1930. She was a daughter of the late Ralph Edward and Margaret Ruth (Baldwin) Leedy. Mary had formerly worked as a House Mother for the Pittsburg School for the Deaf and had also worked for Kentucky Utilities. She was a former member of the Ottenhiem Homemakers and a past president of Highland Elementary PTA. Mary was a long time member of the Stanford Christian Church.

Survivors Include her husband of 60 years, Ernest Schnitzler of Ottenheim; daughter, Melinda and husband Randy Staviski of Covington; daughter, Patsy and husband Jack Robertson of Lexington; daughter, Janet and husband Ronnie Reynolds of Berea; three granddaughters, Michelle and husband Mike Hightower of Lexington; Morgan Reynolds and Lesley Reynolds both of Berea; brother, Bill Ed Leedy of Stanford; sister, Lou Jean Grimes of Louisville; sister, Linda and husband Boyd Gilliam of Stanford; and sister-in-law, Emma Chance of Cincinnati, Ohio

In addition to her parents, Mary was preceded in death by sister, Margilee “Bay” and husband Bud Harris, and sister-in-law, Jerry Leedy

Pallbearers: Greg Goetz, Mark Gilliam, Edward Grimes, Eddie Leedy, Robert Gilliam and Mike Link. Honorary pallbearers: Bill Goetz, Dale Osterman, Mike Gilliam, Jerry Zwahlen, Everett Bruffett and Raymond Schuler

Funeral service will be held at 2 p.m. Sunday, Oct. 23 at the Stanford Christian Church with Mark Thompson officiating. Burial will be in the Buffalo Springs Cemetery. Visitation will be from 5 until 8 p.m. on Saturday, Oct. 22 at the Stanford Christian Church. And also after 1 p.m. on Sunday at the church.
