Josephine Whitaker

1937-2016

Josephine Stone Whitaker, 79, of Crab Orchard, formerly of Richmond, passed away Sunday, Oct. 30, 2016, at the University of Kentucky Medical Center in Lexington.

She was born in Richmond, Kentucky, Aug. 5, 1937, to Price and Bessie Wells Stone, both of whom preceded her in death. She was a homemaker and a farming business partner with her husband, and enjoyed gazing out her window looking over her farm and observing the farm operation.

Mrs. Whitaker had a keen interest in health and natural remedies and enjoyed music, both singing and playing her guitar. She was a beloved, devoted wife and mother, and was always willing to help others. She was a longtime member of the Crab Orchard Christian Church.

She is survived by her loving husband of 60 years, Orville J. Whitaker of Crab Orchard; two sons, Doug Whitaker (Julie) of Brooks, Kentucky, and Larry Whitaker (Sharon) of Aberdeen, Ohio; one grandson, Ross Whitaker of Louisville; two sisters, Arvella Faulkner and Gertrude Scrivner; as well as a close friend, Jane Winegardner.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by a brother, Marvie Stone, and a sister, Virginia Long.

The funeral service for Mrs. Whitaker will be held at 12 p.m. Saturday, Nov. 5, 2016, at Oldham, Roberts & Powell Funeral Home, Richmond, with Bro. Dale Hunt and Bro. Ricky Davis officiating, assisted by Jane Winegardner. Burial will follow in the Richmond Cemetery.

Pallbearers will be Ross Whitaker, Willie Stone, Marvie Stone, Jr., David Lowry, Arlie Faulkner, Roger Faulkner, Barney Long, and Jarvis Long.

Visitation will be from 5-8 p.m. Friday, Nov. 4, 2016, and after 11 a.m. Saturday at the funeral home.
