Boyle County Public Library events for week of Nov. 7, 2016

Published 9:21 am Monday, November 7, 2016

The Boyle County Public Library offers many fun, educational events throughout the year. Weekly programs include Crafters Who Care 6 p.m. Mondays,  Coding Club 4 p.m. Wednesdays  and Open Chess 4 p.m. Thursdays. In addition to these weekly events, the following Library-sponsored programs are scheduled for this week:

• Tween Book Club
The lbrary offers a monthly book club for tweens (ages 9-13). On Monday, at 4 p.m, the group will discuss “Nooks & Crannies” by Jessica Lawson and participate themed activities. Snacks will be available. Any tweens interested in attending may register for the program by signing up in the Children’s Library.
• ‘Old Danville’ with Ken Medaris
The Friends of the Library will host “Old Danville” with Ken Medaris 7 p.m. Monday. Medaris, a third-generation Danville native, will share stories and recollections from his boyhood. This light-hearted program will take you on a journey back in time — when Main Street boasted six drug stores, the Kentucky Theater was buzzing with activity on Saturday mornings, and when Danville High School was brand new. This program will be held in the Community Room at the library.
• Fall Book Sale
The Friends of the Library will be holding their annual Fall Book Sale, beginning Thursday and running through Saturday. Sale hours are 3-8 p.m. Thursday; 9 a.m.-5 p.m. Friday; and 9 a.m.-3 p.m. Saturday.
Proceeds of the sale will go toward library programs and events funded by the Friends of the Library.
• Drop Your Drawers at the library
Make your next visit to the library a brief one, for a good cause, as part of the library’s Drop Your Drawers campaign.
Drop off packages of new underwear for boys and girls, preferably sizes 4-16, through Dec. 1 at the library or at any of the drop boxes at local elementary schools. Donations will help replenish Danville and Boyle County elementary schools’ supplies of emergency underpants and provide direct assistance to each school’s Family Resource Centers.
The need is great. The local schools combined are handing out approximately 190 pairs a month to children who need clean underwear due to accidents at school or issues at home. Because parents often are unable to bring fresh underwear to their children during school hours, children can miss valuable learning time in the classroom.
The library’s goal is to receive 1,000 pairs. Underwear will be distributed evenly to six elementary schools in Boyle County. The elementary schools are: Jennie Rogers, Junction City, Hogsett, Perryville, Toliver and Woodlawn.

The “Drop Your Drawers!” campaign is easily recognizable by the popular character of Captain Underpants by author and illustrator Dav Pilkey.

The library’s collection of “Captain Underpants” children’s books will be on display (and available to check out) during the Drop Your Drawers campaign. By all means, stay awhile and enjoy the library’s many services — the library doesn’t really want you to make your visit brief! For more information about the campaign, visit www.BoylePubLib.org.

Underwear may be dropped off at the Boyle County Public Library at 307 West Broadway in Danville, KY and at each of the participating elementary schools.

More information about these or other events at the library can be found online at www.BoylePubLib.org or by calling the Library at (859) 238-7323.
