The results for the Perryville City Council proved to be a mixed bag of surprises, with two returning members and four new ones beating out two other incumbents.

Incumbent Brian Caldwell led in votes with 217. Incumbent JoAnne Reynolds got 210, Jerry Houck got 189, Paul Webb got 188, Julie Clay got 180 and Steve Bailey got 177. Two incumbent candidates failed to gather enough votes to remain on the council: Tim Simpson got 166 and Ryan Norvell got 145.

Caldwell, who has been on the council for about eight years, said he is “thankful people came out and voted and have confidence in him.”

“We’ll do everything to keep moving Perryville forward,” he said.

Reynolds said she was “excited” with how the votes turned out.

“I felt with the eight that we had, whoever it would be would be a great thing for Perryville,” she said. “I look forward to continuing to make things happen.”

Houck, one of the new incoming council members, said he wants to “do something positive for Perryville.”

“It will be very interesting,” he said. “We all have similar goals and strong opinions about different things.”

Webb, another newly elected member, said he was thankful that the city residents felt he was “worthy” to be on the council and had the confidence to vote him in.

“We will do what’s good for Perryville. I’m excited for what the next two years will bring,” he said, adding that he hopes to see more residents becoming involved in the council.
