Local FFA students win big at convention

Kentucky Future Farmers of America students and advisers won numerous awards at the 89th Annual FFA Convention held Oct. 19-22 in Indianapolis. More than 64,000 FFA members, advisers and guests attended the convention, which is the largest youth organization gathering in the United States

Local winners include: • Boyle County FFA was selected as one of 10 national finalists for the Model of Innovation Award in the area of Community Development, placing them among the top 10 chapters in the nation in the area of Community Development.

• Boyle County’s Ethan Ellis, was one of six Kentucky FFA members selected as national proficiency award finalists for Swine Production Entrepreneurship. Proficiency awards were based on a written application detailing the student’s accomplishments and learning related to his or her Supervised Agricultural Experience Program. National finalists complete an in-depth interview with industry leaders as part of the selection process.

Several Kentucky chapters placed in the top 10 in national Career Development Events including:

• Boyle County FFA placed ninth in the Agronomy Career Development Event. Team members were Alexis Sosh, Makayla Richter, Sarah Ann Randall and Adriana Crockett.

Other teams/individuals competing in National Career Development Events included:

• Lincoln County’s Journey Wooten, silver rating in Creed speaking.

• Boyle County, bronze rating for parliamentary procedure.

Fifteen Kentucky FFA members placed in the top 15 in the FFA Agriscience Fair including:

• Boyle County, Plant Systems Division 4, with team members Sarah Ann Randall and Makayla Richter.

Fifteen Kentucky FFA chapters were recognized in the National Chapter Contest including

• Boyle County, recognized as a three-star chapter.
