The Boyle County Public Library offers many fun, educational events throughout the year. Weekly programs include Crafters Who Care 6 p.m. Mondays, Coding Club 4 p.m. Wednesdays and Open Chess 4 p.m. Thursdays. In addition to these weekly events, the following library-sponsored programs are scheduled for this week:

Tween Book Club: The library offers a monthly book club for tweens (ages 9-13). At 4 p.m. Monday,  the group will discuss “A Mango-Shaped Space” by Wendy Mass and participate themed activities. Snacks will be available. Any tweens interested in attending may register for the program by signing up in the Children’s Library.

“The Changing Table” with David Larson: The Friends of the Library will host “The Changing Table: Observations and Recollections of How Kentuckians Eat” with David Larson 7 p.m. Monday.  Danville native Larson has a lifetime appreciation for food, and through his 40 years as chef and restaurateur, he has observed and been a part of the complex relationship of garden-grocery-table and how they affect our relationships with others. As operations vice president at Shaker Village of Pleasant Hill, Larson continues to lead the seed-to-table movement at Shaker Village, dedicated to serving what is harvested from the soil of the Shakers to the guests at The Trustees’ Table restaurant. This program will be held in the Community Room.

Drop Your Drawers Challenge

The library has partnered with the Family Resource Centers in Danville and Boyle County to collect new underwear for elementary school students. The library has set a goal to collect at least 1,000 pairs by Dec. 31. The donated items will be distributed to the six elementary schools to help replenish the schools’ supplies of emergency underwear.

The donations for Drop Your Drawers have been coming in steadily since the campaign began in early November, but 800 pairs of underwear are still needed to reach the goal. In an effort to increase community involvement, the library is challenging local businesses, civic organizations and community groups to participate in the challenge. The DYD Challenge will run from Dec. 5-16. The team who donates the most underwear will win the DYD Challenge. The winning team will earn bragging rights and a selection of homemade desserts prepared and delivered by library staff.

Teams interested in taking part in the DYD Challenge should bring their donations of new underwear (boys and girls sizes 4-16) to the library on or before Dec. 16.

DYD Challenge donations should include the name of the business or organization to ensure proper credit. Photos of donations are encouraged and will be posted on the library’s Facebook page. The winning team will be announced on Monday, Dec. 19.
