Boyle County’s Jordan Bates went 5-0 at the 120-pound weight class at Saturday’s Big Brother Duals, leading him to winning Most Outstanding Wrestler honors at the Rebels home event.

The Rebels went 3-2 as a team, beating Grant County 59-0, Fern Creek 39-33 and Danville 48-30. They lost to McCracken County 39-22 and Scott County 39-36. LaRue County won the high school and overall program championships.

The event paired the high school team with its middle school team. The Boyle middle school team went 0-4, falling to Wayne County, McCracken County, Fern Creek and Scott County. McCracken won the middle school title.

Danville went 1-4 with a win over Walnut Hills, Ohio, 41-12. In addition to the loss to Boyle, the Admirals lost to LaRue 63-12, McCreary County 54-28 and Anderson County 51-18.

The brightest spot for Danville was heavyweight Jonah Welch, who improved his season record to 10-0 with a 4-0 mark at Boyle. He won three matches by pin and another by forfeit.

“It was a tough weekend, as we expected,” Danville coach Joey Sallee said via e-mail. “Welch continues to roll. … Our football guys came out this week. They only had three days of practice, so they have some kinks to work out. The rest of our guys are young, and we have to keep working hard.”

Boyle junior Derrick Witmer also went undefeated, posting a 3-0 record. Hayden Shepherd, Issiah Isaac and Cobey Blackwell all went 4-1, and Jacob Robbins went 3-1.
