Boyle County High School FCA members recently volunteered to fill Operation Christmas Child boxes. Each year at this time, students come together under art teacher Carrie Snow’s guidance to provide gifts to kids in need. This year, volunteers had the privilege of knowing that their gifts would be given to children in Africa. These children struggle to acquire everyday necessities, in which Snow shared, “children are seen crying over a bar of soap.” Snow decided to have the students buy gifts for the oldest age group, 10-14 years, because they get the least amount of attention. Because the students knew where the gifts will go, they did research to determine some beneficial items that would help them earn income. Along with traditional personal care items and toys, every boy will be given fish hooks. One must have their own hooks in order to be employed in the fishing industry in Africa. Likewise, girls receive sewing kits so they may be hired in the future. The FCA members were able to pack 98 boxes, allowing them to have a profound impact on young lives in Africa.
