The Gose Pike Convenience Center tower replacement project is now 100-percent complete.

The inside of the new tower features a storm protection space at the bottom, an energy efficient heating and cooling window system and more space for the workers.  

Boyle County Solid Waste Director Donna Fechter said the new building will last at least 25 years, if not longer.  

“It’s sturdy,” she said. “I would like to thank ([County Engineer) Duane Campbell and the Public Works crew for building a stout building.”  

In early November, Boyle County Fiscal Court approved spending around $3,000 on materials and more than $6,000 in electricity for the project. Functionality was limited at the center while construction was finished; residents were asked to use Boyle’s other convenience centers for trash disposal during the project.

Fechter is encouraging residents to recycle whatever they can in order to help lower the cost of solid waste.  

“It helps us to reduce the solid waste cost when you recycle,” she said. “There’s an immediate return because what doesn’t go in the box that can be recycled leaves room for the trash that cannot be.”  

Fechter said it can cost more than $300 to haul a full container of trash, but recycling does not cost anything.  

“Be a good environmental steward and be aware of rising cost of solid waste management,” Fechter said. “The regular citizen can help by recycling.”
