This week’s events at the Boyle County Public Library

The Boyle County Public Library offers many fun, educational events throughout the year. Weekly programs include Crafters Who Care 6 p.m. Mondays, Storytimes on Tuesday and Wednesday mornings, and Coding Club 4 p.m. Wednesdays. In addition to these weekly events, the following library-sponsored programs are scheduled for this week:

Kid’s Homeschool Book Club

The Kid’s Homeschool Book Club will meet 2 p.m. Wednesday, Led by Children’s Librarian Libby McWhorter, this book club is designed for children ages 5-8 and features a book discussion and trivia activities. This month, participants are reading “The Whipping Boy” by Sid Fleischman. Snacks will be served. Register for this club in the Children’s Library.

Coding Clubs resume 

The library offers two coding opportunities for students, which will resume this week. Girls Who Code meets 4-5:30 p.m. Mondays, and is open to girls in grades 6-12. Open Coding meets 4-5:30 p.m. Wednesdays and is open to all students in grades 6-12. Both clubs are led by Lucy Minichillo and Dr. Christine Shannon, and are held in the Computer Lab at the library. Tween Event: Scratch Art

On Thursday at 4 p.m., the library will host “Scratch Art.” Tweens (ages 9-13) will create colorful rainbow designs and learn how to make their own scratch art paper. Register for this special event in the Children’s Library.

Cookbook Club

On Thursday at 6 p.m., the library will host the first meeting of the Cookbook Club. The club is a discussion group that will explore the library’s large collection of cookbooks. Participants will make and share different recipes with the club. They’ll hear what others liked about the cookbook and the recipe they tried, as well as taste-test samples and discover new recipes. Club participants will get to vote for their favorite dish and the winner will receive a brand new cookbook. For more information or to register, contact Julia Basil at the library.

Teen Crafternoon

Teen Crafternoon resumes 4 p.m. Friday. Led by Julia Basil, this monthly program features a different artistic craft or activity each month. In January, the group will learn to make Japanese suminagashi prints.This free event will be held in the Mahan Gallery and is open to all teens (ages 13-18).

LEGO Club

The library will host LEGO Club 4 p.m. Friday in the Storytime Room. The finished LEGO creations will be placed on display in the library.
