David Lee Gander

1947-2017

David Lee Gander, 69, of Danville, passed away Jan. 15 at his home. He was preceded in death by his parents Walter and Louise Rains Gander of Danville.

A 1965 graduate of Danville High School, he earned a Bachelor of Science degree in social studies education at the University of Kentucky in 1969. He later earned accreditations in guidance counseling and school administration. Commencing his career in teaching at The Lincoln School in Kentucky, he later taught social studies at Hopkinsville High School. He served as a guidance counselor and assistant principal at Boyle County High School and fulfilled principalships at other high schools including Lincoln County High School, Hopkinsville High School, and Estill County High School.

He is survived by his wife Evelyn and three children, Allison (Anh) of Los Angeles; Brian (Evie) of Milwaukee; and Jennifer (Chris) of Atlanta. He also is survived by grandchildren Amelie and Ty Dang. In addition, Mr. Gander is survived by his brother Walter of Louisville.

Visitation 5-8 p.m. Tuesday at Preston Pruitt Spurlin Funeral Home. Funeral 11 a.m. Wednesday at Centenary United Methodist Church, with the Reverend Dr. Quentin Scholtz and the Reverend Dr. Mike Voigts presiding.

Preston Pruitt Spurlin Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements. A private burial ceremony will be held at a later date.
