Tuesday, Boyle County Fiscal Court approved a resolution for a grant application from the Kentucky Office of Homeland Security for Danville-Boyle County Emergency Management Agency to replace three sirens. 

Emergency Management Agency Director Mike Wilder presented the resolution and said they are applying for a $73,000 grant to replace three sirens at Perryville City Hall, Junction City Fire Department and in Parksville on Ky. 34.

“Sirens are something we just have to keep up with,” he said. 

The current sirens are 30-years-old, he said, and they have spent a considerable amount of money over the last few years to maintain them. 

Wilder said KOHS offers a grant program every year to emergency management personnel “to dip into a pool of money for services.” 

The grant they are applying for through KOHS is identical to the one they applied for in October. 

EMA applied for a hazard mitigation grant and were “competing for a small amount of money,” Wilder previously said. 

After not applying for the grant for several years, Wilder thought it was time to look into it. 

With the small amount of money that was available, Wilder said they did not receive the hazard mitigation grant, which is why they are now applying for the KOHS grant.
