1937-2017
Wilma Rae Ellis Ewbank, 79, of Danville, formerly of the Oxford Community in Scott County.
She was born in her parents’ home in the Forkland community of Boyle County to Cecil Tilden and Alma Whitehouse Ellis. She graduated from Forkland High School in 1955, and received a B.S. in Home Economics from the University of Kentucky in 1959.
She was employed with the University of Kentucky Cooperative Extension Service in Nelson and Laurel counties, then as a Home Economist with Kentucky Utilities in Georgetown, Kentucky. From 1964 to 1967 she worked with the Home Economics Department at Georgetown College, Georgetown, Kentucky.
In 1963 Wilma married James Louis Ewbank. They moved to Georgetown and then in 1970 moved to the community of Oxford where they lived until 2009.
In 1971 Wilma started her antique business known as the Wee Shop of Oxford. She was active in the Scott County Home Economist Club, member of the board of directors of the Georgetown Scott County Museum Board and Deacon Emeritus at Oxford Christian Church.
Survivors include husband of 53 years, James Louis Ewbank; daughters Lourrae Ellis Ewbank (Neil Myers) and Anne Tilden Milburn (Rob); and granddaughter Remy Milburn.
Sisters include Jewell Deene Ellis, Shirley Sheperson (Louis, deceased), Kaye Thurman (Wayne), Karen Marsee (John, deceased) and Marlena Ellis and brother Dale Keith Ellis (Betty, deceased).
Other family members include brother-in-law Clifton Taylor and sisters-in-law Margaret Ellis, Millie Ellis, and Mildred Ellis.
In addition to her parents she was preceded in death by siblings Cecil Ellis Jr., Darryl Ellis, Barry Ellis, and Dr. Barbara Taylor.
The family would like to acknowledge and thank caregiver Becky Phillips and to many others who provided generously of their time and expertise.
Funeral services will be 11 a.m. Saturday, February 11, 2017, at Preston Pruitt Spurlin Funeral Home with Rev. Eddie Parker officiating. Burial in Elder Cemetery in Forkland community of Boyle County. Visitation from 5-8 p.m. Friday, February 10, 2017.
