Dear Editor,

I was sorry to read that Bernie Hunstad has concerns about the “Be Kind” billboard and the newspaper article about it.

Mr. Hunstad was suspicious of the timing of the article about the billboard and asked why I didn’t write an article after the Fast and Furious incident. Of course, I didn’t write this article either. But to allay his concerns about timing and politics, let me point out that I booked the billboard three months ago, prior to the current administration and its recent policies on refugees and immigrants.

Mr. Hunstad wrote that there were solicitations for funds.  In fact, there were none.  The article mentioned that I had received offers to contribute toward a billboard, but I have never solicited funds and I have not received funds from outside sources.

I’m sure that Mr. Hunstad is a well-intentioned individual and hope that if he got to know me, he would understand that my reminder to be kind was a non-partisan effort to attain the mutually beneficial gains of decency and civility.

To that end, I would like to invite Mr. Hunstad to have lunch with me. I think we will find a shared interest in fewer abortions; a mutual desire to preserve the environment that sustains all jobs; a common bond on the importance of the second amendment; and a united front in the quest for kindness.
