Omer Shearer

1943-2017

Omer Shearer Jr., 73, of Stanford, Ky., passed away Sunday, February 19, 2017 at home. Born August 23, 1943 in Lincoln County, Ky., he was the son of the late Omer Sr. and Effie Harp Shearer.

He was a veteran of the United States Army and worked in residential construction for most of his life. Omer enjoyed deer hunting, fishing, telling life stories, being with his grandchildren, devoted to his family, a loving husband, and attended Stanford Baptist Church.

Survivors include his wife of 52 years, Pauline Franklin Shearer of Stanford, Ky.; one son, Ricky Shearer, Sr. (Amanda); two daughters, Teresa Lynn Shearer and Kristi Shearer Poynter (Michael); one sister, Marie Whitehouse; eight grandchildren, Devin Estes, Taylor Chadwell, Misty Fields, Ricky Shearer, Jr., Trevor Godby, Faith Godby, Matthew Shearer, and Jacob Shearer; six great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by five brothers, Cecil Shearer, Robert Shearer, Bill Shearer, John Shearer, and Richard Shearer, and four sisters; Mae Camel, Christine Rutledge, Flora Dailey, and Ethel Adams. Visitation will be Tuesday, February 21, 2017 from 5-9 p.m. at Spurlin Funeral Home Chapel, Stanford. Funeral service will be 2 p.m. Wednesday, February 22, 2017 at the funeral home with Reverends James Baughman and Vola Brown officiating. Burial will follow at Lancaster Cemetery in Lancaster, Ky. with military rites by Caswell Saufley Post #18.

Casket bearers will be Devin Estes, Ricky Shearer, Jr., Trevor Godby, Jordan Fields, Jesse Chadwell, and Mike Hill.
