Marvin Edward Saylor

1938-2017

Marvin Edward Saylor, 78, of Danville, Kentucky passed away Monday, February 20, 2017. Born March 26, 1938, he was the son of the late Homer Saylor and Beatrice Hunnicut.

He was retired from the United States Marine Corps, having served three tours in Vietnam. After his military services, he worked for and retired from Kentucky Utilities.

He was an active member of the First Baptist Church of Danville, Ky. where he served as a deacon and was a member of the Joy Sunday School class.

He was a 1956 graduate of Danville High School and attended the University of Kentucky. He was a member of the 1954 Danville Admirals State Championship football team, and was a current board member of the Danville High School Athletic Hall of Fame. He was a longtime supporter and avid fan of Danville High School and the University of Kentucky athletics.

Marvin was a passionate, impactful and loyal gentleman who held himself and his family with integrity. He was preceded in death by a brother, Stanley Saylor.

Marvin is survived by the love of his life and wife of 55 years, Virginia Saylor; a daughter, Amy (Craig) Butler of Danville, Ky.; and two sons, Scott (Mari Miyaki) Saylor of Alameda, Calif. and Mark (Cassandra) Saylor of Lancaster, Ky.; five grandchildren, Erin (Jonathan) Chandler, Ben Saylor, Shelby Sinkhorn, Logan Butler and Laura Butler; one great-grandson, Cole Chandler; a sister, Joyce Sinclair; a brother, Rick Saylor and many nieces, nephews and beloved friends.

Visitation will be held from 5 to 9 p.m. Thursday, February 23, 2017, at First Baptist Church. The funeral will be held at 11 a.m., Friday, February 24, 2017, at First Baptist Church with military burial following at Camp Nelson.

Pallbearers will be Logan Butler, Ben Saylor, Johnathan Chandler, E.G. Plummer, Billy Bob Barker, Robert Southerland, Jimmy Rankin and Richard Block. Honorary pallbearers will be the Joy Sunday School Class, Deacons of the First Baptist Church and the DHS class of 1956.
