The Boyle County Public Library offers many fun, educational events throughout the year. Weekly programs include Crafters Who Care 6 p.m. Mondays, Storytimes on Tuesday and Wednesday mornings, and Coding Clubs 4 p.m.  Mondays and Wednesdays. In addition to these weekly events, the following library-sponsored programs are scheduled for this week:

• Around the World with the 2M2 Book Club

The library offers many book discussion groups each month, including the Reading Around the World: 2nd-Monday-at-2 Book Club (2M2), which meets 2 p.m. on the second Monday of the month in the Mahan House at the library. Selections include fiction and historical fiction books set in locations around the world. On Monday, March 13, the group will discuss “The Tower, the Zoo, and the Tortoise” by Julia Stuart. Those interested in participating may register at the circulation desk in the library.

• Addiction in Danville: Challenges, Opportunities, and Hope for the Future

At 6 p.m. Monday, March 13, the Friends of the Library will host Kathy Miles who will present on the challenges, opportunities and hope for the future when it comes to addiction.

Miles serves as the Coordinator of Boyle County Agency for Substance Abuse Policy (ASAP), the coordinating organization for addressing alcohol, tobacco and drug misuse problems in Boyle County. 

Miles retired in 2015 as Director of Counseling Services at Centre College, after more than 40 years of experience in mental health, child welfare and substance abuse counseling and administration. She is a licensed marriage and family therapist and a licensed clinical alcohol and drug counselor. 

• Teens Write Tuesday

The library hosts a variety of events for teens (ages 13-18), including a monthly group for teens who love to write.

Each month participants can bring a past original work to share or they can participate in the monthly writing prompt.

Teens Write Tuesday meets on the second Tuesday of the month. The next meeting will be held 4 p.m. March 14 in the conference room at the library.

• Third Thursday Book Discussion Groups

The Boyle County Public Library offers a variety of book discussion groups each month, including the Third Thursday Morning and Evening Book Discussion Groups which meet 10 a.m. and 6:30 p.m. respectively at the library on the third Thursday of the month.

These groups are designed for anyone interested in discussing a wide variety of books in a group setting.

Both groups will meet on Thursday, March 16. The morning discussion group, which is led by Diana Draper, will discuss “Unholy Fire: A Novel of the Civil War” by Robert J. Mrazek.

The evening discussion group is led by Merry Cooper and will discuss “The Red Garden” by Alice Hoffman. Those interested in participating in either group may pick up a copy of the book at the circulation desk in the library.

• Tween Scratch Art

At 4 p.m. Thursday, March 16, tweens (ages 9-13) are invited to create colorful rainbow designs while learning to make scratch art paper. Registration is required. This event will be held in the Storytime Room.

• Spring Film Series: Comedy Tonight! (Week 3)

The Friends of the Library continue with their annual Spring Film Series 7 p.m. Thursday, March 16. Films will be shown on Thursday evenings in the Community Room at the library through mid-April. The post-film discussion will be led by Charles Vahlkamp.

Popcorn will be available and there is no charge for admission. In this week’s film from 1979, a local boy falls for a college girl in a college town that is dealing with inter-generational issues as well as town/gown rivalries.
