J.R. Asbery

1939-2017

J.R. Asbery, age 77 of Greenup, Kentucky, met with his Lord and Savior, Saturday evening, March 11, 2017, in Kingsbooke Nursing Home in Ashland. J.R. was born September 30, 1939, in Casey County, Kentucky to the late Charlie and Lillie Selch Asbery.

J.R. he was also preceded in death by his brothers, Hubert, and Eddie Asbery.

He was a retired farmer, pastored Smith Branch Church of God for 10 years, and was a member of Wurtland Church of God.

Surviving J.R. are his loving wife Virginia May Gilpin Asbery of Greenup, Kentucky; his sons, Jerry and his wife Martha Asbery of Danville, Kentucky, Johnny and his wife Elizabeth Montgomery of Danville, Kentucky, Henry and his wife Aggie Montgomery of Greenup, Kentucky; his daughters Angela and her husband Herbert White of Danville, Kentucky, and Rebecca and her husband Rob Waggoner of Flatwoods, Kentucky.

Also surviving are his brother Bill “W.C.” Asbery and his wife Judy of Mitchell, Indiana; and his sister Evelyn Reynolds and her companion Junior Lowry of Versailles, Kentucky; and his grandchildren, Chris Asbery and his wife Kirsten, Bryan Montgomery, Aaron Montgomery, Jordan Bryant, Bubby White, Joy White, and Michelle White; and his great-grandchildren, Peyton Christopher Asbery, Brycen Montgomery, Jayce Montgomery, Cooper Montgomery, Coy Montgomery, Vada White, Elijah White, Nevaeh White, Chevy White, Ethan White, Johnny Montgomery, Kelly Mounts, Joy White, Josh Montgomery, and Troy Montgomery.

Funeral services for J.R. will be held 2 p.m. Wednesday, March 15, 2017, at Danville Church of God, by Bishop Henry Montgomery and Brother Rob Waggoner.

Visitation will be from 6-8 p.m. Tuesday, March 14, 2017, at Music Family Funeral Home in Greenup and from 11 a.m. to service time at 2 p.m. at the Danville Church of God, Danville. Burial will in Lancaster Cemetery in Garrard County.
