Boyle County softball improved to 2-1 on the season after beating Southwestern 10-0 in six innings Thursday.

Kelly Lay pitched a complete game, giving up just one hit while striking out 14 Southwestern batters through six innings. The Rebels drove in three runs in the sixth inning to end the game.

Southwestern’s only hit came in the second inning. Otherwise, Lay dominated.

She was also strong at the plate, going 3-for-4 with two runs batted in.

The Rebels’ offense was sparked by the top of the lineup: leadoff batter Madison Robbins went 3-for-3 with a run and an RBI; Channing Whitehouse was 2-for-4 with a run and an RBI.

Keely Bowling went 2-for-4 with three runs batted in and one run scored; Kacey Lanham was 1-for-3 with a run and an RBI and Danielle Roney was 1-for-2 with two runs scored and an RBI.

Boyle will travel to Elizabethtown for the Big M Chevrolet Classic this weekend, where it will face state powerhouses Male, Madisonville North-Hopkins and Ashland Blazer. All three of those teams have made it to the state tournament in at least one of the last two seasons.

BASEBALL

BOYLE COUNTY 9, ROCKCASTLE COUNTY 5 — The Rebels stayed perfect by jumping out to an early 3-0 lead and allowing only five hits in the home win. Boyle has totaled 68 runs in six games while giving up 17.

Tevin Leigh and Cameron Walker each had a pair of hits for the Rebels, who totaled 10 base knocks. Walker drove in three runs to lead the offense.

Sam Tiller threw 5 1/3 innings for Boyle, picking up the win.

WESTERN HILLS 8, DANVILLE 5 — Three unearned runs in the second inning doomed the Admirals in their second loss in the last three games. They stand with a 5-2 record, with both losses on the road.

Ellison Stanfield went 3-for-4 with three RBIs while Zach Dampier went 2-for-4 with two runs scored. Dampier and Stanfield each hit a double.

Jacob Crank, Brian Baxa and Dmauriae VanCleave also scored runs for the Ads.

Austin Mott gave up seven runs in three innings, but only two of them were earned. He allowed five hits and walked two batters while recording two strikeouts. Noah Goodman and Bric Mongeau combined to allow one run over the final five innings.

LEXINGTON CATHOLIC 3, MERCER COUNTY 1 — Lex Cath scored twice in the top of the eighth inning to break open a tie game and the Titans couldn’t respond in the loss in Lexington.

Joseph Stoeckinger had two hits and drove in Tyler Stephens for Mercer’s only run of the game.

Josh Barnett threw 7 1/3 innings for Mercer (0-4), allowing one earned run on five hits and one walk with eight strikeouts. Hunter Kelly faced the final batter in the eighth, getting a groundout to end the inning.

The Titans had three errors.

GIRLS TENNIS

CASEY COUNTY 9, ROCKCASTLE COUNTY 0 — The Rebels improved to 7-0 with another sweep, beating the visiting Rockets.

Amber Pierce set the tone with an 8-0 win at first singles. Kristen Hogue won 8-1 at second singles; Abi Crew won 8-2 at third; Bekah Cochran won 8-3 at fourth; Gena Cravens took fifth with an 8-0 win; and Maggie Rodgers won at sixth 8-1.

Laci Lee and Sarah Harne swept first doubles 8-0. Crew and Cochran won at second doubles 8-1, and Madi Meece and Cravens won third doubles 8-0.
