Boyle baseball opens spring break with win

Boyle County baseball scored four runs in the bottom of the third inning to take a 10-5 win over Atherton on Sunday at the Fort Walton Beach Bash in Florida.

Cameron Walker led the Rebels with three hits; Boyle had eight hits as a team. Walker and Alex Sergent each had two RBIs.

Tristen Helton had eight strikeouts in seven innings of work, allowing eight hits.

The Rebels took advantage of seven Atherton errors.

DANVILLE 11, GREEN COUNTY 2 — The Admirals jumped out to a 5-0 lead in the first inning, cruising to a win over the hosts in Saturday’s Green County Wooden Bat Classic.

Mason Schroeder had three hits and two runs for the Ads. Zach Dampier, Alex Venables and Hunter Baxter each had two hits.

Venables and Brian Baxa each drove in two runs, and Tanner Ford scored twice.

Austin Mott, Noah Goodman and Bric Mongeau combined to allow no earned runs on seven hits, striking out eight. Mott picked up the win.

FERN CREEK 5, DANVILLE 1 — Fern Creek scored four runs in the sixth inning to rally for the win Saturday in the Green County Wooden Bat Classic. Brian Baxa hit a solo home run in the fourth to give the Admirals a 1-0 lead.

Baxa’s two hits were half of the Ads four as a team. Mason Schroeder and Bric Mongeau each had a hit.

Jacob Crank worked the first five innings, allowing two earned runs on six hits with no walks and nine strikeouts. Zach Dampier pitched the final two innings and gave up two unearned runs on one hit and one walk with two strikeouts.

The Ads committed five errors.

MARION COUNTY 1, MERCER COUNTY 0 (8) — Mason Hazelwood didn’t allow a hit in 7 2/3 innings, but Marion scored in the bottom of the eighth to take the win Saturday.

Hazelwood gave up the earned run, walking two batters and hitting another. He struck out nine batters.

Tanner Robins, Hunter Armstrong and Ty Sims each had singles for the Titans. They drew five walks but struck out 12 times.

SOFTBALL

GARRARD COUNTY 16, NEWPORT CENTRAL CATHOLIC 1 (4) — Kelsey Perkins allowed four hits and one earned run in four innings, leading the Lions to the win Friday at the Carroll County Classic.

Kelsi Moss went 2-for-3 with a home run, scoring once and driving in four runs. Sam Adams went 3-for-3 with three runs, and Elle Montgomery went 2-for-3 with two runs. Olivia Saylor hit a three-run double, and Lauren Patrick had a two-run double.

GARRARD COUNTY 4, SIMON KENTON 3 — Olivia Saylor drove in the winning run with a double in the bottom of the fifth inning to lift the Lions to the win Saturday at the Carroll County Classic.

Sam Adams, Brittany Butner, Kelsey Perkins and Katy Pozzuto scored for Garrard. Adams, Sis Logan and Pozzuto also drove in runs.

Elle Montgomery allowed one earned run and two walks in five innings to earn the win.

DUPONT MANUAL 5, GARRARD COUNTY 1 — Manual scored four runs in the final three innings to break open a tie game and win on Saturday at the Carroll County Classic.

Sam Adams and Olivia Saylor each had two hits for Garrard.

Kelsey Perkins worked all seven innings, allowing one earned run and nine hits with five strikeouts.
