Boyle tennis improves to 5-1 with win over Casey

Boyle County swept the two doubles matches in straight sets and Luke Duncan added a straight-set sweep at first singles as the Rebels boys tennis team rolled over Casey County 5-0 on Monday.

Duncan beat Luke Johnson 6-2, 6-1 at first singles. Chase Frisby rallied from a first-set defeat to beat Austin Harne 5-7, 6-2, 10-2 at second doubles. Coleman Clark beat Josh Underwood 8-3 at third doubles.

Adrien Van Steenlandt and Josh Bishop won 6-0, 6-0 at first doubles over Jax Ponder and Brandon Brown. Jackson Mesplay and Sam Clark beat Luke Coffman and Will Thompson 6-2, 7-5 at second doubles.

Boyle improved to 5-1.

GIRLS TENNIS

CASEY COUNTY 8, RUSSELL COUNTY 1 — The Rebels showed no rust from spring break, easily winning on the road.

Casey swept the singles matches, led by Sarah Harne’s 8-0 win at third and Gena Craven’s 8-0 win at sixth. Amber Pierce, Kristen Hogue, Laci Lee and Abi Crew also posted singles wins.

Crew and Bekah Cochran won 8-0 at second doubles, and Madi Meece and Macy Vaughn won 8-2 at third doubles. Lee and Harne fell at first doubles in a close match, 9-7.

BASEBALL

SOUTHWESTERN 12, BOYLE COUNTY 7 — The Warriors built a 6-0 lead through 2 1/2 innings and withstood a late rally from the Rebels.

Cameron Walker and Evan Shields both worked 2 2/3 innings for the Rebels. Walker struck out a team-high two batters.

The Rebels fell to 12-3 and broke a five-game winning streak.

SOFTBALL

FRANKFORT 15, BURGIN 2 (5) — Grace Osborn went 2-for-2 with a run scored while Allison Harlow had a run and a RBI in the Bulldogs loss.

Burgin went up 2-0 after the opening half of the first inning, but Frankfort four times in the bottom of the first and five more in the second to break open the game.

Osborn gave up nine earned runs in four innings. She allowed 14 hits and two walks while striking out five.
