This week at the Boyle County Public Library 

The Boyle County Public Library offers many fun, educational events throughout the year. Weekly programs include Crafters Who Care 6 p.m. Monday, Storytimes on Tuesday and Wednesday mornings, and Coding Clubs 4 p.m. Mondays and Wednesdays. In addition to these weekly events, the following library-sponsored programs are scheduled for this week:

Around the World with the 2M2 Book Club

The Reading Around the World: 2nd-Monday-at-2 Book Club (2M2) meets 2 p.m. on the second Monday of the month  in the Mahan House at the library. Selections include fiction and historical fiction books set in locations around the world. On Monday, April 10,  the group will discuss “The Light Between Oceans by M.L. Stedman. Those interested in participating may register at the Circulation Desk in the library.

My Travels Around the State” with Tom Eblen

At 7 p.m. Monday, April 10, the Friends of the Library will host Tom Eblen, metro/state columnist for the Lexington Herald-Leader, who will share his take on Kentucky, its people and communities.

About the speaker: Eblen teaches journalism ethics at the University of Kentucky and has been a frequent writing/editing coach at The Mountain Workshops. He and his wife, Becky, have two grown daughters, Mollie and Shannon.

Mahan Gallery Reception: “Private Collections”

The library and the Arts Commission of Danville/Boyle County will host a Gallery Reception 4:30 p.m. Tuesday, April 11. The “Private Collections” exhibit features a variety of pieces made by local artists. Many people enjoy collecting artwork, including local artwork created by the talented artists who call central Kentucky home. All of the pieces featured in this exhibit are on loan from private collections. The exhibit will be on display through April 15.

Teens Write Tuesday

The library hosts a monthly group for teens (ages 13-18) who love to write. Each month participants can bring a past original work to share or they can participate in the monthly writing prompt. Teens Write meets on the second Tuesday of the month. The next meeting will be held 4 p.m. on April 11 in the Conference Room at the library.

Nutrition Condition (Week 2)

At noon Thursday April 13, the library will be hosting “Nutrition Condition,” a health and wellness workshop series offered in partnership with the Boyle County Cooperative Extension Office. Workshop participants will learn how to improve their nutrient intake and learn how to eat better on a budget. Registration is encouraged.

Tween Sand Art

At 4 p.m. Thursday, April 13,  tweens (ages 9-13) are invited to create unique works of art by layering colorful sand inside a jar. Registration is required. This event will be held in the Storytime Room.

Coloring and Conversation

The library will host a coloring club for adults 6 p.m. Thursday, April 13. Many adults have rediscovered the joys of coloring as a way to relax and combat stress. The club, which is done in partnership with the Boyle County Cooperative Extension office, will meet on the second Monday of the month in the Mahan Gallery. Spring Film Series: Comedy Tonight! (Week 7)

The Friends of the Library continue with their annual Spring Film Series 7 p.m.  Thursday, April 13. Films will be shown on Thursday evenings in the Community Room at the library through mid-April. The post-film discussion will be led by Charles Vahlkamp. Popcorn will be available and there is no charge for admission. In this week’s film from 2000, a colorful array of characters compete at a national dog show. This is the final film in this series.

Computer Classes

In the ongoing effort to promote lifelong learning, the library offers a wide variety of free computer classes every month. The following classes are scheduled for this week:

Computer Basics (Intermediate),  2 p.m. Monday, April 10  

Typing, 11 a.m. Wednesday, April 12

Facebook, 2 p.m. Wednesday, April 12 

How to Spot Fake News, 3 p.m. Thursday, April 13

Intro. to Microsoft Word, 4 p.m. Thursday, April 13 

Android Devices, 11 a.m. Friday, April 14 

Apple iPad/iPhone, 2 p.m. Friday, April 14
