What do you give a city for its birthday? Why, art, of course …

The Gathering Artists Fine Art Exhibit opens Saturday in Perryville. Located inside of Walden Funeral Home, the showcase features about 28 pieces in the chapel areas of the home — including a variety of mediums, from glass to fiber, digitals to oils, watercolors and acrylics. The exhibit runs through May.

“The exhibit has been generously hosted by David and Lea Walden, who are great friends of the arts in Boyle County,” says Mimi Becker, executive director of the Arts Commission of Danville/Boyle County. “The commitment of the Waldens — and their generosity not only with the space but their time, as well — has been amazing.” Becker says the exhibit contains work of 15 members of The Gathering Artists.

An opening reception is planned for 1-3:30 p.m. April 29 and will be accompanied by Joy Campbell on piano, and refreshments on-hand. Becker says the event is planned in conjunction with the 200th birthday of Perryville, a celebration which will continue on through the Battle of Perryville 155th anniversary, held Oct. 7-8 at Perryville Battlefield State Historic Site.

The exhibit is open 9 a.m.-4 p.m. weekdays and 9 a.m.-1 p.m. Saturdays.

“We are truly excited about it and hope people come out to take in these beautiful pieces,” David Walden says. “We love having all of them here, and hope others come to see them all.”
