THEATER

Rabitt Hole, 8 p.m. tonight-Saturday (April 20-22) at Norton Center for the Arts. Presented by Centre College Drama, production is directed by Patrick Kagan-Moore and is an intense, emotional and comedic examination of a family’s journey from grief to hope. An adaptation by David Lindsey-Abaire, this piece has been called an entertaining, satisfying and painfully touching play. The Music Man Jr., Friday-Sunday and April 28-30 at West T. Hill Community Theatre, 117 Larrimore Lane, Danville. Based on Meredith Willson’s six-time-Tony-Award-winning musical comedy, features some of musical theatre’s most iconic songs and a story filled with wit, warmth and good old-fashioned romance.  Shows are 8 p.m. Fridays and Saturdays, and 3 p.m. Sundays. Moonlight and Magnolias, Friday-Sunday and April 28-30 at Ragged Edge Community Theatre, 111 S. Main St., Harrodsburg. An affectionate portrait of the legendary movie producer David O. AUDITIONS

Grease, 2:30 p.m. May 7 and 6:30 p.m. May 8 at West T. Hill Community Theatre, 117 Larrimore Lane, Danville. Will consist of cold readings from script, some improv, learning/performing a small dance in a group and learning/performing a song. No prepared songs necessary. 

VISUAL ART

Gathering Artists Fine Art Exhibit, opens Saturday at Wilder Funeral Home, 207 S. Bragg St., Perryville. Held in conjunction with Perryville’s 200th Birthday Celebration, the exhibit features works from 15 members of The Gathering Artists, with mediums in glass, fiber, digital, oil, watercolors and acrylics, and will be open during regular business hours through May. Opening reception will be 1-3 p.m. April 29.  

Reinterpret: Contemporary Landscapes with Billy Hertz, through April 29 at CAC, Danville. This show features stunning contemporary landscape paintings by Louisville artist Hertz, along with fresh new work by four other artists who are represented by Galerie Hertz. Harrodsburg Historical Society Tasting Party, 10 a.m.-2 p.m. May 1 at 220 S. Chiles St., Harrodsburg. The 27th annual event benefitting the society and its preservation of Morgan Row, will feature a variety of breakfast and brunch items, casseroles, etc. Cost is $5 to fill a plate, drinks and desserts extra, carryout available. Sock Hop, 6:30-9:30 p.m. April 29 at Garrard Middle School cafeteria, 304 W. Maple Ave, Lancaster. An annual benefit for the Garrard County Arts Center, will feature Larry Cory and the Passport Band, a 50s dance and costume contest, a pie auction and special appearances by “50s celebrities.” Entry is free. Perryville Jamboree, 5:30-10 p.m. Saturdays at 103 N. Bragg St. Dinner starts at 5:30 p.m. and is served until 7 p.m. Entertainment by house band, the 68 Drifters, who host a different guest artist each week. Cover is $10. CAMPCAUSEWELOVETOACT, 10 a.m.-3 p.m. July 17-22 at West T. Hill Community Theatre, Danville.   Campers learn the art of stagecraft and have a special showcase at the end of the week.  This summer is an “interim summer” with Ryan Moffett, Johanna Johnston, Ellie McKay and Alissa Klein from UPLIFT coming to help.  Ages 5-18.  Cost is $150, additional siblings are $100. Kentucky Chautauqua: Simon Kenton, Frontiersman 1755-1836, 1 p.m. May 13 at LCPL, Stanford. One of Kentucky’s greatest frontiersman will step out of Daniel Boone’s shadow and live again when Kentucky Chautauqua presents Mel Hankla in a compelling living history portrayal of Simon Kenton (1755-1836).  Simon Kenton, certain he had killed another boy in a fight over a girl, fled west from Virginia at the age of 16.  He was wrong, but the incident launched him on a life of high adventure.  This program was funded in part by the Kentucky Humanities Council, Inc.
