Human ‘books’ were fascinating to ‘check out’

Dear Editor,

Kudos to the Boyle County Public Library, Centre College and some “human library books!” Through the HUMAN Book Project I was enabled to have a most intellectually stimulating experience. At Centre College on Saturday and Boyle County library on Sunday, people with interesting stories became human books that could be checked out and “read.”

In my listening to their stories and the dialogue that ensued, I learned about the culture of American Indians, science and its role in education and the understanding of our very existence, how the Dollhouse Museum got started, touched on the genesis of a playwright, the exciting existence of petroglyphs in an area cave, as well as insights on writing as a career or as an avocation. Plus, time kept me from checking out several other books with interesting titles.

Danville and Boyle County has many more “human books” that would make for an interesting “read.”

Could we do this again next year?
