George “Papa” Bertram Jr.

1929-2013

George “Papa” Bertram Jr., age 88 of Powell Street in Stanford, passed away Monday, May 15, 2017 at his residence. Born Tuesday, March 12, 1929 in New Berlin, Illinois, he was the son of George Bertram and Sallie Marshall Bertram. His loving wife, of 68 years, whom he married November 5, 1948 is Rosa “Rosie” “Roro” Bertram of Stanford.

George owned Bertram Plumbing for 50 years. He was a member of Stanford Baptist Church, where he was an Emeritus Deacon, previously on Stanford City Council, a volunteer fireman, school bus driver, and ran the Little League baseball program. George enjoyed golf, hunting, and fishing.

In addition to his wife, George leaves behind his two sons, Steve (Anita) Bertram of Danville and Michael Bertram of Stanford; two sisters, Martha Dean of Dunnville and Jo (Don) Benton of Nicholasville; four grandchildren, Natosha (Collins) Barnett of Lexington, Nicholas (Jennifer) Bertram of Mechanicsburg, PA, Joshua (Rebekah) Bertram of Danville, and Andrew (Sara) Bertram of Danville; and seven great-grandchildren, Cadence Barnett, Donovan Bertram, Clayton Bertram, Cora Barnett, Claire Bertram, Aiden Bertram, and Beckham Bertram.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by four brothers; Carl Bertram, William Bertram, Curtis Bertram, and Ray Bertram; and one sister, Louise Jones.

A funeral service will be held 10 a.m. Saturday, May 20, 2017 at Stanford Baptist Church with Bro. Nick Manzie officiating the service. Burial will follow in Buffalo Springs Cemetery.

Nicholas Bertram, Joshua Bertram, Andrew Bertram, Collins Barnett, Kevin Dean, and Eric Dean will serve as Active Pallbearers. George’s granddaughters and great-grandchildren will serve as Honorary Pallbearers. The visitation will be held 5-9 p.m. Friday, May 19, 2017 at the church.
