Summer has arrived rather quickly this year in Danville, and the warm weather can only mean one thing: Danville’s annual Lawnchair Theater is back.

Outdoor movies have become a popular venue because it allows all members of the community to enjoy the free entertainment.

This year we are proud to offer Lawnchair Theater in downtown Danville as a free, family-friendly activity on select Friday nights during June, July, August and — for the first time — in September.

This year, we will play the movies on the third Friday of the month. The dates for the movies are: June 16, July 21, Aug. 18 and Sept. 15.

On June 16, we will be showing “SING!,”  the adventure of a hustling theater impresario’s attempt to save his theater with a singing competition, which becomes grander than he anticipates, even as its finalists find that their lives will never be the same.

July 21, we’ll throw it back to the classic “Mary Poppins” with Julie Andrews and Dick Van Dyke, a movie which needs no introduction.

On Aug. 18, you can catch the latest Disney princess hit, “Moana.” Set in ancient Polynesia, the tale is of a terrible curse incurred by the demigod Maui, which reaches an impetuous dhieftain’s daughter’s island, who ends up answering the ocean’s call to seek out the demigod to set things right.

Closing out Lawnchair Theater is the classic favorite “The Goonies,” the adventures of a group of misfits who set out to find a pirate’s ancient lost treasure in order to save their families’ homes from foreclosure.

In order to help offset the costs of providing these free movies, the Heart of Danville offers the following sponsorship opportunities. These packages are designed to help deter our costs and give a prominent spot to promote your business:

• $500 weekly movie sponsor (one per movie): At this level, you will be given one 30-second commercial that will air before your sponsored movie, plus all the benefits of a $350 sponsor.

• $350 weekly movie sponsor (one per movie): At this level, you will be given one static advertisement that will loop prior to your sponsored movie; announced and promoted as the week’s movie sponsor; given the ability to hand out any promotional items the evening of your sponsored movie; given a premier spot in Heart of Danville’s weekly E-News (top ad space/client supplies ad); and listed on all printed promotional materials, including posters and in any website or online listings, as well as in E-news promoting the week’s movie, and any related press releases.
