Several-stop-hop-shops 

Mimi Becker says Danville has such a wonderful history of artists, and the Arts Commission is excited to recognize some new talent this year during the Gallery Hop.

The event, which goes down 5:30-8 p.m. Friday in various downtown locations, is an annual one which traditionally happened the Thursday of Brass Band weekend, but this year was changed up in order to hopefully lead to a bit more cohesiveness in getting around town. 

Executive Director Becker says she wants the community to get to know the hop’s new additions: Matt Rogers, Andrew Stine and Kristine Browne — three new artists she feels the public will love. 

“Our seasoned artists are mentoring and welcoming these young artists,” Becker says. “I want to encourage people to get to know these three, as well as Sarah Waite, Mary Trollinger, Gavin Mahan and Travis Kern.” 

Kern, a singer, will be performing at Danville Bike & Fitness, which will also offer children’s activities indoor and out. 

David Farmer will be a featured artist at the Boyle County Public Library, where he will be accompanied in a duo-exhibit with his granddaughter, Kate. Jeweler Sandy Wells will also be on-hand at the library. 

Another new feature this year is the addition of Pioneer Playhouse onto the roster, which will host author and artist Robert Powell. Friday will be the Playhouse’s opening night, which is presenting a Kentucky Voices award-winning play by local playwright Liz Orndorff, “Death by Darkness.” 

“Those who wish to hop can enjoy a spin around town, and then end up at a great show at the Playhouse,” Becker says.
