Meetings
Urban Renewal and Community Development Agency — 10:30 a.m. Wednesday, July 12 at 116 East Main St. Items on the agenda include: review of DFDC yearly finanical statements; review fiscal year end financial statements; select auditor for year ending June 30, 2017 review; approve SEMAP certificataion.
Boyle County Republican Party — 6-8 p.m. July 17 at Mallard’s Restaurant, 1001 Ben Ali Dr. Guest speaker will be Kentucky Agriculture Commissioner Ryan Quarles.
Danville-Boyle County Airport Board — 6 p.m. Thursday, July 13 at the airport. General business in on the agenda.
Canning 101 offered Wednesday by Boyle extension
Free canning workshops will be offered by the Boyle County Extension Office, including Canning 101: Canning Basics on 10 a.m. Wednesday, July 12. The same class will be offered again 6 p.m. July 24 at the Boyle County Public Library. Hands-on classes offered (participants must have taken a 101 class first) include Boiling Water Bath Canning, 10 a.m. Aug. 15, and Pressure Canning 10 a.m. Aug. 22, both classes are at the Extension Office. Classes are free of charge and space is limited; sign up by calling (859) 236-4484.
Family reunion
The descendants of Riley and Lena Selch Taylor will have a reunion beginning ?????? (robin is checking on time) Saturday July 22 at Boyle County Fairgrounds building. Bring a dish to share and your choice of beverage, the meat will be furnished.
Bicycle safety program offered
HARRODSBURG — The James B. Haggin Memorial Hospital and the Mercer County Public Library will present “Bicycle Safety” at the July Community Health Forum at noon, Thursday, July 13 at the Mercer County Fairgrounds Farmers Market Pavilion, “The Stable”.
Speakers will be James B. Haggin Memorial Hospital’s Amanda Martin, RN, BSN, Trauma and Stroke Coordinator and Donnie Short, RN, Emergency Room Director.
Annually, approximately 25,000 children and adolescents are treated in emergency rooms for traumatic brain injuries from bicycle-related
incidents. Any bicyclist who does not wear a bicycle helmet is at increased risk of head injury. Wearing a properly fitted helmet every time you and your children ride a bicycle is one important prevention
method.
Members from The James B. Haggin Memorial Hospital will see that each child present will receive a free, properly fitted bicycle helmet. Each child will also be eligible for drawings for free bicycles.
Genealogical and Historical meeting to be held
The Boyle County Genealogical and Historical Society will meet 6:30 p.m. Monday, July 17 at Boyle County Public Library. President Mike Dennis will talk about the Works Progress Administration and its antecedent organizations, and some of the work they did in Danville and other Boyle County communities from 1933 to 1943. The talk is based on the minutes book of the Community House, which oversaw relief activities during the Depression, and also contains information Brenda Edwards included in her article on the WPA in the Advocate-Messenger in 2012. Visitors are welcome.
