Campbellsville honors teachers

Campbellsville University honored 190 teachers throughout 69 Kentucky school districts for excellence in teaching at 31st annual ceremony recently.

Lincoln County – Michael Rowe is superintendent; with winning teachers, Joy Robertson, Highland Elementary School; Dixie Lay, Lincoln County Middle School; and Agatha Manion, Lincoln County High School.

Robertson teaches intermediate science at Highland Elementary School, where she has taught since 1999. She graduated in 1995 from Lincoln County High School. In 1999, Robertson received a bachelor of science degree from Lindsey Wilson College. In 2005, she obtained her master of arts degree from Eastern Kentucky University.

She is married to Chad Robertson and they have three children, Garrett, Kaegan and Gabby Robertson. Her parents are Peggy and James Board from Stanford.

Lay teaches English and language arts at Lincoln County Middle School, where she has been working since 2005. Lay graduated from Lincoln County High School in 1977. She attended Eastern Kentucky University, where she obtained her bachelor of science degree in 1990 and her master of science degree in 1997. Lay is married to Jeff Lay and has two children, Jennifer Rhodus and Leah Carmicle. She is the daughter of Shelby Jean Bertram from Stanford. 

Manion teaches French at Lincoln County High School, where she has worked since 2011. Manion graduated from Highlands High School in 2005. She attended the University of Kentucky, where she obtained her bachelor of arts in French and music in 2009 and her master of arts in French in 2011. She is married to McClee Manion. Her parents are Kathy and Tom Clixby from Ft. Thomas, Ky.

Casey County

Casey County – Marion Sowders is superintendent; Shelly Hill, Jones Park Elementary School; Julie Hayes, Casey County Middle School; and Susan Stringer, Casey County High School.

Hill is a fourth grade language arts teacher at Jones Park Elementary School, where she has been teaching since 2004. Hill graduated in 1987 from Casey County High School. In 2002, she obtained her master’s degree in education from Eastern Kentucky University. She is married to Jeff Hill and has three children, Allison Sellers and Chase and Emily Hill. Her parents are Nita and Billy Sellers from Middleburg,

Hayes teaches seventh grade language arts at Casey County Middle School, where she has worked since 2014. She is married to Jeff Hill and has three children, Allison Sellers and Chase and Emily Hill. Her parents are Nita and Billy Sellers from Middleburg.

Hayes teaches seventh grade language arts at Casey County Middle School, where she has worked since 2014. She graduated from Fulton County High School in 1989. Hays obtained a bachelor of science degree in 1993 from Murray State University. She achieved a bachelor of arts degree in 2004 and a master of arts degree in 2007 from Eastern Kentucky University. Hays obtained her second master of arts degree in 2011 from University of the Cumberlands. She is married to Breece Hayes and they have three children, Benton, Brenna and Breece Hayes II.

Stringer teaches AP calculus, college algebra, college trigonometry and algebra II at Casey County High School, where she has been teaching since 1991. She graduated from Russell County High School in 1987 and obtained her bachelor of science in math in 1991 from Campbellsville University. In 1994, she obtained a master of arts in math education from Western Kentucky University. Stringer achieved a Rank I in Math Education in 2001, and in 2016 she obtained her principal certification. She is married to Barry Stringer, and they have four children, Travis, Shelby, Trace and Tanner Stringer. Her parents are Rena and Ivan Bennett from Russell Springs.
