Calling ALL artists

The Garrard County Arts Council is proudly hosting its annual art contest and exhibit. The theme for 2017 will be artwork that illustrates, My Favorite Things.

The council’s yearly event was created in 2013 to give local artists an opportunity to exhibit their work and win cash prizes. It has been a vital source of discovering new and emerging talent in the Garrard County, Lancaster and surrounding communities.

This year, for the first time, the contest is open to all area artists and all mediums. By expanding the invitation, the council hopes to bring more exposure to individual artists and the Garrard Community Arts Center. Judges selected over 70 entries from last year’s submissions and over $800 in cash and prizes were awarded.

Categories will include painting, drawing, photography and other.

Deadline for art submissions is Aug. 21. The fee is $20 per submission, and includes a one-year membership to the council. Each participant may submit up to three entries.

My Favorite Things winners will be announced during an opening reception for the artists held in conjunction with The Rural Heritage Tobacco Festival 5-7 p.m. Aug. 25. The exhibit will run until Sept. 28 at the Garrard Community Arts Center, 117 Richmond St., Lancaster.

The GCAC Gift Shop and Gallery is open 11 a.m.-4 p.m. Tuesday-Friday, or by appointment. For more information about the contest, call (859) 948-6988, www.garrardarts.com or visit Garrard County Arts Council on Facebook.
