Elizabeth “Lorene” Fletcher

1941-2017

Elizabeth “Mossie” “Lorene” (Eldridge) Fletcher, 76, of Crab Orchard, passed away Thursday, July 13, 2017 at her home. She was the widow of James “Newtie” Fletcher who preceded her in death on March 22, 2004.

Elizabeth was born April 5, 1941 in the community of Kenvir in Harlan County to the late Jess and Mollie (Jones) Eldridge. She grew up on Copper Creek and attended Brodhead School. She began working for Cowden’s Manufacturing in 1960 and retired after 33 years of service. She was a previous member of both Valley and Immanuel Baptist Church. Elizabeth was an avid quilter, having hand quilted over 50 quilts in the past 13 years. She enjoyed collecting four-leaf clovers and had collected 33,448 notebooks.

She is survived by two daughters, Laura & husband Phil Brandenburg of Stanford and Teresa & husband Wayne Renner of Crab Orchard. Two sisters, Marie Walter and Verta (Shirley) Williams; a brother, Ellis (Betty) Eldridge; 5 grandchildren, Valerie, Amanda, Jessica, Jamie & Travis; 6 great-grandchildren and 7 step great-grandchildren; 4 sisters-in-law, Virginia Metcalf, Martha Cowan, Janice Southard & Mary Davidson. Numerous nieces & nephews also survive. 

In addition to her husband and parents, Elizabeth was preceded in death by a son, James N. Fletcher, Jr.; sister, Nellie Jean Walter; brother, Willis Eldridge; and 3 infant brothers, Carl, Otis & Amos Eldridge.

Pallbearers include: Phil Brandenburg, Wayne & Travis Renner, Randy Eldridge, Larry Mullins & David Taylor. 

Honorary pallbearers, Ronnie & Eugene Walter, & Dwight Sneed.

Funeral services will be 1:30 p.m., Sunday, July 16, 2017 at McKnight Funeral Home with Eugene Walter officiating Burial will be in the Corner Cemetery. Visitation will be from 4 until 8 p.m. on Saturday, at McKnight Funeral Home.
