Garden club trip

A group from the Garden Club of Danville toured Bernheim Forest near Bardstown recently. Here, they pose on a large, multi-tiered rope swing outside the Education Center, after a lunch of vegetables grown in the arboretum’s sustainable garden. The group heard a lecture on the history and mission of Bernheim, then went outside for a tour of the sustainable garden and a talk about pollinators and Monarch Waystations.  Bernheim Arboretum and Research Forest is a 15,600-acre nature preserve designed by Frederick Law Olmstead in 1935. The forest includes over 8,000 varieties of trees, shrubs, and perennials and is a national leader in ecological stewardship.

Morning Pointe news

With the nearest Chick-fil-A about 40 miles away, Morning Pointe of Danville residents and associates had different plans to celebrate the annual “Cow Appreciation Day.”
The senior living and memory care community visited the family-owned Devine’s Farm in Harrodsburg to milk the “Marvelous Milking Moo.”
But this isn’t your “run of the mill” community cow named Bessie or Buttercup. It is a simulated milking cow from Texas designed to teach students and adults how to dispense milk using water as the substitute.
The experience brought back many memories for the Morning Pointe residents who once lived on farms and homesteads themselves.

Morning Pointe of Danville residents Joe McDaniel, above, and Pete Kinslow milked the “Marvelous Milking Moo” at Devine’s Farm in Harrodsburg.
