William Carter

William “Bill” Cook Carter, Jr., 69, son of William Carter, Sr. and Mary Carter Lewis, was born November 23rd, 1947 in Stanford, KY. He graduated from McKinney High School in 1965 during the Vietnam Era.

Bill joined the Air Force in 1966, his goal in life was to be the best that he could be in every aspect of his career. His career was in telecommunication industry which spanned for more than 43 years. After beginning work at GTE as a linemen in 1969, he progressed up the corporate ladder to ultimately become the West Kentucky Area manager. While on his journey, he graduated from Lindsey Wilson College, Summa Cum Laude, while taking night classes and working full-time.

After 46 years he found himself still married to the road running Rhonda Reynolds Carter of Elizabethtown, KY. Two daughters were blessed to this union, Cynthia Lorraine Carter Collins (Joshua) of Elizabethtown, KY, and Pamela Elaine Carter Wood (Matthew), of Elizabethtown, KY; It gets better! 3 grandchildren plus a bonus, McKayla Collins, Peyton Collins, Landon Carter Wood, Bonus- Michael Robert Wood; one sister; Mary Carter Pulliam (Marty) of Stanford; two nephews, John Ray and Chris Ray.

His civic duties included: Kiwanis, Rotary Club, President of Elizabethtown Chamber of Commerce, member of the Heritage Counsel, Tourism Committee, 811 Board Member. Bill always took pride in serving his community.

Visitation will be Sunday, July 23rd, 2017 from 5 to 9 p.m. at Spurlin Funeral Home, Stanford. Funeral service will be Monday, July 24th, 2017 beginning at 11 a.m. at Spurlin Funeral Home, Stanford. Officiating will be Reverend Mike Mullins and Doctor Herstel “Butch” Carter. Interment will be at Camp Nelson National Cemetery with Military Rites given by Caswell Saufley Post #18 American Legion.

Memorials preferred in lieu of flowers may be given to the ALS Association Kentucky Chapter, 8640 Haines Drive, Florence, KY 41042.

Casket bearers will be Eddie Ray Carter, Steve Richardson, Steve Harvey, Tommy Hughes, Mark Reed, and Donald Taylor. Honorary bearers will be his grandchildren; Tom Whatley, Wendell Whatley, Jim Anglin, and Max Vincent.
