Michael Lee Gilliam

1957-2017

Michael Lee Gilliam, 60, of Stanford, KY passed away Wednesday, August 30, 2017 at home. Born August 9, 1957 in Stanford, KY to Boyd and Linda Leedy Gilliam, he worked as a plastic molder for most of his life.

He was an avid sports fan, had played football and wrestling in high school, and later in life played softball and was part of a championship softball team. He was an avid U.K. fan, loved his family and many friends, and enjoyed going to flea markets and auctions. 

In addition to his parents, he is survived by his wife; Rhonda Wilson Gilliam of Stanford, KY, two sons; Kris Gilliam (Brittany) of Corbin, KY, and Seth Gilliam of Stanford, KY, a daughter; Heather Cash (Travis) of Stanford, KY, his grandmother; Lydia Gilliam, two brothers; Robert Gilliam (Mitzi) and Mark Gilliam (Susan) both of Stanford, KY, four grandchildren; Alex Gilliam, Claire Gilliam, Aubrey Cash, and Sadie Cash, a sister-in-law; Kim Gilliam of Danville, KY, and several nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by a brother; James “Jay” Gilliam, grandparents; Walter Gilliam, and Ralph and Margaret Baldwin Leedy, and a nephew; Josh Gilliam. 

Visitation will be Friday, September 1, 2017 from 5-8 pm at Spurlin Funeral Home Chapel, Stanford. Funeral service will be 10:30 am Saturday, September 2, 2017 at the funeral home with Reverend Jeremy Gilliam officiating. Burial will follow at Danville Memorial Gardens in Danville, KY. 

Casket bearers will be: Kris Gilliam, Seth Gilliam, Travis Cash, Robert Gilliam, Mark Gilliam, Travis Gilliam, Brandon Meek, Jared Atwood, Curt Folger, and Gary Carter. Honorary bearers are: Matthew Gilliam, Donnie Gilliam, Dannie Gilliam, Monty Atwood, and Scott Wieland. Memorials in lieu of flowers may be given to St. Jude’s Children’s Research Hospital (www.stjude.org).
